Job Opening: (Senior) Legal and Political Analyst (m/f/d)
The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Tehran is seeking to recruit a (Senior) Legal and Political Analyst to join its Political and Economic Affairs Section.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide support to political officers, the Economic Counsellor and the Consul in their reporting, including the preparation of summaries, drafts, and briefings.
- Provide legal analysis, including the preparation of legal opinions and written assessments on constitutional, public and criminal law matters.
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis on political developments, with particular emphasis on domestic and foreign policy and related cross-cutting topics.
- Continuously review, evaluate, and synthesize studies, research papers, expert analyses, and opinion polls.
- Prepare presentations, charts, and other visual or written briefing materials.
- Prepare CVs, profiles of political figures and parties, organigrams.
- Maintain and further develop professional contacts with international organizations, think tanks and academic institutions in Iran.
- Contribute expertise on additional thematic areas, in particular refugees, displacement, and migration.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or higher) in law and/or political science, international relations, regional studies, or a related discipline. A law degree and/or a PhD is a strong asset.
- Relevant professional experience in law, political research and analysis, , academia, embassies, international organizations or think tanks.
- Established expertise on Iran and/or the Middle East, including a solid understanding of political institutions, legal frameworks, and societal dynamics.
- Proven ability to write clear, concise, and insightful analytical reports for senior-level audiences under time pressure.
- Proven ability to work both independently and in a hierarchical institution.
- Readiness to show initiative and work outside regular working hours if political developments demand so.
- Excellent Farsi and English or German language skills (spoken and written) are required; a proficient command of all three languages is a strong asset.
- Strong communication, analytical, and intercultural skills, with a high level of professional integrity and discretion.
